FAQ

It is a Latin construction that recalls the transformations of our body between the mineral, vegetal and animal worlds: the three key elements of life on Earth.

The Capsula Mundi urn is made out of bio-polymers that are fully biodegradable, produced from prime materials predominantly obtained from seasonal plants. No trees are felled and in fact, a new tree will be planted over every urn buried, as part of the Capsula Mundi concept.

The technical description:  The bio-plastic utilized to manufacture the Capsula Mundi urns is fully biodegradable. It also fulfils EN 13432:2000 standard requirements and owns OK COMPOST label (regarding biodegradability in industrial composting conditions) until the thickness of 69 um.  The bio-plastic do not contain any substances which at the current time are on the candidate list update 20th June 2016 from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) for inclusion in Annex XIV as a substance of very high concern (SVHC) in concentration of 0,1 wt% or more.

The Capsula Mundi is composed in such a way that it slowly releases the ash into the soil. This prevents the soil from acquiring a high pH value too quickly, as is the case when the ashes are scattered.

Ashes have a very high pH level that could prevent the growth of plants, but the biodegradable plastic we have chosen to produce the Capsule Mundi urns breaks down slowly, starting with small fractures. In this way, the ashes mix gradually with the ground. This slow dispersion process helps to equilibrate the soil action: the soil is a powerful buffer solution and it is therefore able to neutralize the high pH level of the ash, it just needs time. In addition, the rainwater that penetrates into the soil gradually dissolves the sodium and potassium salts, which become attractive and useful for the growth of the plants. Putting the ashes in the Capsula Mundi urns, it is very different than putting the ashes directly in the open ground.

Yes, this is possible. See our ‘How to’ page. In fact, many people who have an urn in their house since years have chosen a Capsula Mundi to transform their loved ones to a tree or plant.

The Capsula Mundi urn should be stored in a dry place. If it will be exposed to the light, the colour could change a little bit. The urn has a 2 years guarantee.

Capsula Mundi can be used for cremated large for pets, as well non-cremated very small pets if they fit throught the opening of 7,5cm. We will definitely and undoubtedly address the growing requests we have for this kind of burial for our furry friends, starting from the biodegradable urn in a smaller size…a Capsula Mundi Mini. It requires however large investments, so it might take some years as we also invest in the large pod for the human body.

In addition to the trees and plants native to the area, you can choose from any number of species. The only limitations are decided by the local conditions: latitude, climate and soil type.

Please do not hesitate to contact us using the possibilities as shown on our ‘Contact us’ page. We will address your question and add the frequent ones to this overview.
